Sometimes we need our children to calm down and other times we need them to liven up a bit, so these few movements do just that.
They only take five seconds, and we can all find 5 seconds...
While not earth-shattering, these five movements provide miraculous results - you'll have to try them and see for yourself (be sure to let us know the results).
1. Jump in place - self explanatory. Let them jump, and jump and jump. This gives loads of input - make it fun, no army drills
2. Run in place - less fun than jumping but does the same thing.
3. Jumping Jacks - don't worry about flailing arms (just protect yourself and clear the area) let them stretch their arms and legs and get the blood flowing
4. Toe Touches - flexibility, stretching the spine, balance, trunk control - a few seconds of toe touching goes a long way. - kiddos tend to bend down, but only come back up part way - make sure they come all the way up before touching their toes again ;)
5. Wall Push-ups - have your children put their palms flat against the wall and do push ups; ask them to move the wall for you and see if you can't make a joke out of it as well. This gives the upper body intense amounts of input in just a few seconds.
6. The CraZee Dance - let your child just wiggle and twist or flail about for a few seconds... bodies will seek out input that's needed and avoid input that's unpleasant, so letting your child just go wild and silly actually accomplishes something too.
Do these with your children and make it fun. Remember: a lot of small interventions add up... even 5 seconds at a time.
